Bahrain Rally’s to Beat Qatar in Volleyball Championships.

Congratulations to Qatar for making it to the Volleyball Championships round.  Good Job and I await when I can report that Qatar Wins Volleyball Champoinship.

Gulf-Daily-News.com reports:

BAHRAIN took a major step towards winning the 16th ART Arab Volleyball Champion- ship, following a precious 21-25, 25-19, 25-22, 23-25, 15-12 victory over contenders Qatar last night at the Juffair Youth Centre.

Star spikers Jassim Al Nabhan and Fadel Abbas helped the home side recover from a shaky start to bag their fourth successive victory and stayed on course towards winning their second Arab title.

Following this crucial win, the team were congratulated by General Organisation for Youth and Sports president Shaikh Fawaz bin Mohammed Al Khalifa who attended the match.

The Bahrainis, who lead this six-team round robin championship with eight points from four matches, will play their fifth and last match tonight against reigning champions and second-placers Tunisia in the title match.

If Bahrain win, they take the trophy. A defeat, however, will see both Bahrain and Tunisia end on an equal record, and the title will be decided on set points difference of each team.

Could be, Gulf-Times report that the Dakar Rally could be coming to Qatar in 2010.

THE Dakar Rally could find its way to Qatar as early as 2010, motor sport ace Nasser Saleh al-Attiyah has said.
After a gruelling four-hour workout in preparation for the 2009 edition of the same event which begins in Argentina on January 3, al-Attiyah revealed to Gulf Times that a Qatar-Dakar Rally could be an imminent possibility.

”It is happening now in Argentina and Chile, but for 2010 I hope the Dakar Rally is coming to the Middle East,” al-Attiyah said.
“It is a possibility, and our dream. If we have this chance to bring the Dakar Rally to the Middle East, we will not lose it,” he vowed.

Now this is a sport I can get into.  I have been a fan of auto racing for many years and love to watch it live.  There is nothing more exciting that cars whipping around the turns at breakneck speed and the smell of gasoline and burnt rubber.  I hope they come there I will definitely be there for this.

Qatar putting itself up as a candidate for 2018 World Cup

Wow, That would be so great to have the World Cup here.  The only hurdle I see it has to jump is the weather.  As you know the World Cup is usually held around June – July time frame.  Which as you all know is this countries hottest months, or at least leading up to them.  Which I believe was why they were turned down for their Olympics bid for 2016.

In competition for the Bid, is England, Russia, and Australia.  All are going to be tough to beat if as far as location, weather and all around hosting abilities.

Qatar put on a great show for the Asian Games a few years ago, but in my opinion the crowd turn out was relatively low.  I went to a few contests and the stands were almost empty.  That is except when Qatar Football matches were in play.  They were packed and I expect the same if the World Cup were to get here in 2018.

sports-city.org reports:  Doha’s controversial failure to make the short list for the 2016 Olympics has brought a bid from Qatar for the 2018 football World Cup much closer, Observer Sport can reveal.

The gas- and oil-rich state is keen to bring one of the world’s major events to its tiny peninsula which juts out into the Arabian Gulf, and after a snub by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) at its meeting in Athens last week, it will concentrate instead on challenging England, among others, for the right to host football’s flagship tournament.

Qatar had been waiting to see the outcome of its Olympic bid before deciding to formally state an intention to bid for the World Cup, but it is now expected to announce its candidature within weeks. ‘They are deadly serious about bringing a major event to Qatar and after the Olympics, the World Cup was always next on their list,’ said an insider who is close to the Emir.

However the Emir would want assurances that Qatar would not be ‘humiliated’ in the way he believes it was by the IOC, which refused to include Doha on the short-list despite its own evaluation commission ranking the bid equal third on technical merit with Chicago – the favourites to host the 2016 Olympics – and ahead of Rio de Janeiro, which was put through to the next stage.
